My journey continues in New Zealand

My journey continues in New Zealand

My journey through New Zealand really begins after picking up the hired car, off we set for Rotorua, stopping on the way to the Waitomo glo worm caves fascinating and very beautiful, especially the gondola boat ride through the caves where it is completely dark and silent and to see the thousands of glow worms shining brightly up above, no photography was allowed of any sort as not to disturb the fragile glow worms.

We then headed for our destination for the next two nights Rotorua arriving around 5pm to the beautiful lake view hotel. You could do almost anything on the lake, we plumped so a sedate pedalo (not very adventurous i know) but seeing the lake from a different perspective was really good. Walking along the lake front were at least 20 to 30 seagulls waiting to pounce on their next victim and i actually got dive bombed by a couple so i made a hasty retreat!! Well that was the exercise for the day!! Found a lovely little cafe bar and sat out for a well deserved S/Blanc (cloudy bay) whilst writing my journal. But we began to notice a strange smell emanating all around, rotten eggs, then the penny dropped ah! we were in the Thermal Wonderland of Rotorua!!

One of the many black swans on the lake.

This is a recreated Maori boat.
The carvings on it are so intricate.

Can you imagine seeing this in the water, Amazing

Our trip for the next day was to the,
Waiotapo Thermal wonderland. We spent so much more time here than planned, but you just could not go for an hour, we did the whole walk in the end ended up staying nearly three hours. Breathtaking scenes of our earths core and the bubbling noises of the earth moving with billowing smoke coming up every so often giving of that lovely rotten egg smell !!!

A Pied Stilt picking little things from the ground, how it survives in this place i don't know because the ground is hot in some places!

One of the many different coloured lakes that have formed in the area and it was really that colour

Different rock formations that have formed over thousands of years.

This was known as the Frying pan and Oyster pool, quite stunning.

Giving a swirling feature to the lake.

There is that smell again!!!

The steam was overpowering as i stood here , you had to just step back!
The edge of the Champagne pool

The Devils Home, aptly named i think.

One reason for going was the Geyser that erupts at
preciously 10.15.am every morning, hopefully that will continue,
if not there maybe something going wrong around the region!

The evening trip was to the Tamaki Maori village. Where an evenings entertainment awaited us.
All dressed in their native costumes, telling stories through music and dance.

This chap was amazing, his eyes were so wide and
as for his tongue WELL !!!!!! No photo i'm afraid but will
leave it to your imagination!!!

The entrance to the village where our chosen chief from our coach
was welcomed, we had been given written information beforehand
about what to expect and not what to do! Never laugh, imitate or smile
whilst the dance is being performed as it would be very disrespectful to
the Maori chief of the village. It was such a shame because the heavens opened
at this point, thunder and lightening too, so the dance was cut very short.
We were all then welcomed to the village where a Hangi feast had been set for us, traditional
meats that had been slow cooked in a oven in the ground covered by volcanic rocks
and cooked for 7 hours, never tasted lamb, pork or chicken like it, delicious.

You can see just how wet the ground was!

The grounds of the village.

As i said the journey really began here, the scenery gets more dramatic as we go further around but this was certainly a good opener. Miles and miles of green pastures hills, mountains are to come.

Good Morning Sunshine

To think, these little darlin's only hatched about 10 days ago.

I'm Over The Moon!!!

It's Official! As of 11:45am today I became a Great Aunt. Actually - I'm an outstanding, awesome, fantastic Aunt, but now we can add the extra generation!

Lucy May weighed in a 6lbs.12oz.

My niece is doing great!

I won't get to meet Lucy for another 5 weeks, but that's geography for ya.

Oh, I can hardly stand it!!!

Hummingbird Watch 2010

By my estimation the babies are 1 week old now. It is so amazing to watch them grow. The appear to be a little smaller than my thumb now, and they are having a tougher time both fitting into the nest together. They're very frigidity.

The above picture I caught this morning. You can just see there two little heads poking up.

This picture I took last night just as I was leaving from work. This is proud Pappa feeding his wee ones. Doesn't he look gorgeous! I realize this isn't a great picture, but its been very breezy lately and its hard to get a shot in before the branches move.

They just look like they're looking for trouble. Don't you think?

I suppose I could make this wordless Wednesday, and to be sure - watching these birds has made me speechless.

A Monday Rant

I’m giving you fair warning – I’m going to rant. And not one of you is going to give even a whisper of a hint to my husband about it. Do you hear me?

Through no fault of my own, I ended up taking ‘ownership’ of my husband’s old vehicle. It’s a 1988 Ford Bronco II and has over 370,000 Kms (230, 000 miles -/+). Needless to say – it’s not in the prime of its life, but it’s been a good vehicle. I need/want a vehicle to run my errands when I want/need too, and not be dependent on when the hubster is not in need of the car. I feel a bit stranded when I can’t get around.

I’ve tried to convince hubby that it’s time to put it to rest. It’s old, its untrustworthy, and I can’t even give it away. I know because I tried, and it still found its way back to my ownership.

About 6 weeks ago I tried to open up the conversation about “letting go”, but was met with a “its still a good vehicle, you just can’t park it on an incline”.

This statement came out of a afternoon of adventure that I had with it. I’d gone to a local mall for a little bit of weekend shopping. I parked the truck is a relatively normal area, albeit a slight slope.

I attempted to put the emergency break on, but it wouldn’t go down. So, double-checking the truck was in gear, I set out to conquer my errands, thinking this would be enough.

I had about 3 or 4 different stops to make and had been in the mall for about an hour. I tend to ignore pages that occur because they never pertain to me. Why would they?

Rounding out the end of my hour long stroll I’m just heading back out to the parking lot and the sound of a terse announcement that is being made finally catches my ear.

THEY WERE PAGING FOR "THE OWNER OF A BLUE FORD BRONCO TO RETURN TO THEIR VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY!!!"

There couldn’t possibly be two vehicles like mine it the parking lot – this had to be for me, and I quickened my steps.

Sure enough, there are two security folks waiting impatiently by my truck with large blocks jammed behind the wheels to stop it from rolling back (any further). The truck had managed to roll directly into oncoming traffic, but had managed not to do damage to anything or anyone.

I don’t know how they managed to get it back out of the line of fire, and I didn’t have the courage to tell them that they could have just got into my unlocked vehicle and turned the ignition without the key. (A little known secret, but I keep hoping someone will steal it.)

I shamefaced drove home determined to come to a final decision about getting rid of the rolling behemoth.

Believe it or not folks, I haven’t even come to the reason for wanting to rant today. The preamble was only to give you grounding for my concerns and frustrations.

Bring the previous story forward about two weeks. My hubby ran an errand with the truck on a sunny Saturday and informs me when he got back home that the truck will have a completely flat tire by the next morning. The valve-something-or-other was shot and needed replacing.

True to his word – the next morning I looked out the living room window to see reality. Reflecting back on the previous days conversation I realized that he had never made mention of changing the tire and getting it repaired. AND he was gone for the day now.

The week was busy and come the weekend I asked him if he’d ‘help’ me change the tire so that I could get the valve fixed. He gave me a skeptical look and dismissed my thoughts.

Fast-forward three weeks to yesterday. The truck is still in driveway with a flat tire. I come home from (taking our car) getting groceries and asked again – “Honey, will you please help me change the tire on the truck?” Well, short of kicking the ground like all petulant children do, he grumbled about having things to do.

I said, “No problem, I’ll just call one of our many male friends and ask them if they’d help me.”

He didn’t like that answer. Mostly because he knows I know people . . .

He stomps out of the house, walks around the truck, comes back into the house and informs me “the spare is flat too”, and goes back to his office.

So this is what I’m seriously thinking of doing – I’m going to post it for sale on our local www. buy my piece of junk .com and explain that although it is in working condition – you’ll need to change the tire first because my husband can’t be bothered.

What do you think? Is that too mean?

Brings Joy To My Heart

The baby Hummingbirds have hatched. I began to see them on Wednesday, but I couldn't get a picture until today. I can't believe how much they've grown in only a few short days.

&

Please keep in mind these pictures are taken through a window which made them a little whitish. But, oh, aren't they beautiful!!

God is so good।

Screw Blackberrys!!! Don't be offended!!!

I got verizon and a new phone!!! I ordered the Blackberry Tour on Sunday and it got here yesterday! I spent 45 minutes with it. Trying to figure out how to work it, how to move around, how to add contacts. And I gave up. The shit was too complicated. Sam got a Droid (which is idiot proof), and he had everything set up already.

Sooo, to make a long story short, I went to Verizon, returned my Blackberry and got a Droid also. It's awesome! I love it and the apps are great. The bill is going to be insane every month but we'll talk about that when it gets here.

The only thing wrong with it is that the battery doesn't last very long. But I usually carry my chargers around with me anyway.

Anyone else have a Droid? Any stories? LOL

Ohhhh SHIT!

After my last tanning experience at Sun Bum Tanning, I went to a Hollywood Tans and tried them out last week. I walk in and she's telling me all about the beds and stuff. I can tell that their beds weren't going to be as strong as the last place so I went with the second highest bed again. The receptionist then says to me, "Well the maximum time for that bed is 10 minutes but I think you should go in for only 5 minutes because you're really, really white." Then she starts giggling.

PAUSE

Like I know that you're super young and you can tell that I'm young too but that doesn't mean that you can joke around with me, especially about my paleness. I wanted to be like, "yeah bitch, I'm really really white, and you're really, really ORANGE! So what? Gimme the full 10 minutes!"

But instead I was like, "Umm gimme 7 minutes," and walked away. I should have went in for 10 minutes cuz their beds absolutely suck! And their beds are all stand up and I feel like I'm in a small submarine. It's really weird.

But yeah, I hate when people try to joke with me just cuz we're around the same age and they assume I have a sense of humor.

NOT COOL!

The Reason I Didn't Blog Last Night!!!

I was making my mom this really awesome Mother's Day card!!! I had a bunch of magazines and paper from scrapbooking so I decided to make her a card myself!.. If you haven't got your mom anything I suggest you make a home made card. I wrote a really heart felt letter inside and I know my mom is going to cry when she reads it.

I had to pay $17.00 to send it FedEx though, cuz it was too late to send it through regular mail. As soon as I got finished with my card, the following text was sent to my two younger sisters:

"I just got done making mom the most amazing Mother's Day card, so you better step your game up this year, cuz Halmark ain't gonna cut it sistazzz!!!"

I got a response back from Rachel who is 14. She said that she's painting her a card! I laughed out loud when I read it. I can't wait to see my sisters at the end of the month!!!

What are you guys doing for your mom on Mother's day?

Can't Stand The Heat, Get OUT The Kitchen!!!

So this passed weekend we had the first of many Holy Communion parties to go to. It was a good time though. Got to see a lot of Sam's family. It was soooo freakin' hot outside though.

Me + Heat = no good!!! Thats why I'm so pale. I can't stand to sit out in the hot ass weather.

I think that every weekend in May is taken over by some thing or another. It's insane! Next weekend we have Sam's nephew's communion party. The weekend after that Sam's mom's sister is coming in from Guyana and driving up from D.C. I think the weekend after that there isn't anything going on. We'll probably celebrate Sam's birthday that weekend since we'll be in Pittsburgh the weekend after that.

It was sooo hard getting up this morning and getting ready for work. I didn't think I was going to make it. But tomorrow is Tuesday, we'll see what kinda day it brings.

I hope everyone had a good Monday!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go look at my NEW BLOG you're not too late to catch it from the beginning. Don't forget to start at Day One.
I Might Be Getting a Puppy!!!
It's actually a dog that my parents just recently got. They named it Flurry but I like to call it McFlurry. They said it's been chewing up my dad's shoes so if we want it we can have it. I haven't got to meet McFlurry yet but when I do I'll make the decision if I want to take him or not. He's soooo cute so I'll most likely definitely want it.
I've grown up and almost always had a dog, so it's weird to not have one. Sam and I went to Petco today and they have some Kitty Adoption program. I'm allergic to cats but they are sooo cute and I was thinking I'd just take some kinda allergy medicine everyday. LOLLL
My New Favorite Website, besides blogspot!
I love it! I just started using it at work today, mainly because I just now figured out how to use my computer speakers. It's amazing and I have like 10 different stations.
Just wanted to tell everyone that hasn't used Pandora that you should. And if you start we can start sharing stations, cuz mine are the best!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Current To-Do List

1. Paint my nails, cuz they look a mess. But I don't feel like waiting for them to dry and putting on layers and stuff. Ahh, sucks.

2. Get a hair cut. I want to get a cute shorter cut for summer but I just haven't gotten around to looking for a good hair stylist in the area. My hair is growing longer by the day and it looks like shit!!!

3. Exercise on a regular basis and stop fucking around. When I started working out again I was doing good and exercising like 5 days out of the week and now I'm lucky if I'm exercising 4 days out of the week. I'm getting so lazy and I need to step it up!

4. Figure out a gift to send my mom for Mother's Day, like ASAP! It's coming up and I still don't know what to send her. I guess flowers would be nice but I'm not the "typical" type of daughter. I want to send her like a dozen different CD's, but have a midget dressed up like the artist deliver each one! If I could set that up it would be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

5. Come up with something really special for Sam's 26th birthday that's coming up. I already know what I'm getting him but I want to come up with something really special. After all, he is getting up there in the age bracket. He's going to be in his late 20's!!!

6. Work on my scrapbook that I've abandon since Christmas. I have to put stuff in there from my 21st birthday and Easter. I'm slacking BIG time.

So yeah, I have a lot of things to do that I haven't even started to implement yet. I'll get there sooner or later. I'm definitely what most people would call a PROCRASTINATOR! Oh well.

One of Those Sucky Ass Days!!!

Before this morning I hadn't taken a shit in weeks. So last night before bed I took some type of laxative and I woke up like a half hour early this morning because my stomach hurt. I went to the bathroom and lost like a pound and a half, just from shitting.

But anyways...

Today was just bad from the minute I got into work. And I thought it was Friday a total of like 7 times throughout the day. I was at work and in a meeting for most of the afternoon and I was secretly listening to my iPod, until it started dying on me. Which completely blowed!

Thank God tomorrow is pay day or else I might have just called off. I need to go buy a cute jean jacket that I can wear with some khakis on Sunday to a first holy communion party, that is pretty casual. But other than that I'm trying to save a bunch of money.

Just felt like releasing some tension and writing about my sucky ass day. I hope everyone else's day was a lot better than mine.

I Wouldn't Call Myself An NBA Fan, BUT...

I would call myself an NBA Playoff fan. I don't like watching regular season games but I'm always updated on them because Sam watches a bunch of them, when I let him, hehehee! But when playoffs come around, I'm as bad as any grown man!!!

Tonight, though, there isn't really any good games on. I like watching the Cavs play and also the Lakers even though I hate the Lakers.

I also LOVEEEEE this commercial

Just incase you haven't seen it :)

Any NBA fans?

Pucuk dicinta ulam pun tiba.

Beda Agama Tak Membuat Perbedaan Prinsip

Lalu bagaimana jika motivasi kita tengah turun. Pekerjaan menjadi asal-asalan, wajah kita tampak kusam bahkan murung.

Simak aja tulisan Sun Zu ini ”Know your Enemy...” kalimat ini begitu ringkas, hanya 3 kata. Kata lainnya mungkin akan difahami menjadi ” Know your problem... & you ’ll find the solution...”

  1. Bacalah sebuah karya sastra (prosa, puisi, novel dll)

Sebuah karya sastra biasanya memberikan motivasi tersendiri. Seperti halnya jika kita membaca kalimat dari puisi Chairil Anwar ’Aku mau hidup 1000 tahun lagi...’. Shahabat Umar pun menturuh kepada anaknya aga membasa syair agar anak-anaknya menjadi pemberani.

Itulah tujuh Tips bagaimana menjaga motivasi agar tetap fit.

Bolehkah kuliah pake sepatu kulit asli??

1. Ehhh jangan lupa laptopnya di enskripsi dulu biar ga hilang ...
2. eh gimana kalo laptopnya di zip dulu supa bisa masuk saku celana, truz abis shalat kita unzip lagi :D
3. Gimana kalo sepatu dan laptop kita pasang GPS buat ngelacak kalo dicuri (kebetulan waktu itu tugas paper saya tentang GPS)
4. Kamu tolong jadi satpam dulu di belekang.... kita shalat duluan
.........dan celetukan lain yang lucu-lucu.
Trus sekarang gimana? kita kuliah ko ngak nyaman nyimpen barang...
Pesan terakhir:

"Build Me a Son"

Build Me a Son

Untuk anakku yang harus berdiri 'Tegar'"

by General Douglas A. MacArthur

Build me a son, O Lord,
who will be strong enough to know when he is weak,
and brave enough to face him self when he is afraid;
one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat,
and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son whose wishbone will not be
where his backbone should be;
a son who will know Thee- and that
to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.

Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort,
but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge.
Here, let him learn to stand up in the storm;
here, let him team compassion for those who fall.

Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goals will be high;
a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men;
one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep;
one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.

And after all these things are his,
add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor,
so that he may always be serious,
yet never take himself too seriously.

Give him humility, so that he may always remember
the simplicity of true greatness,
the open mind of true wisdom,
the meekness of true strength.

Then I, his father, will dare to whisper,
"I have not lived in vain."

Maling Negeri

Mahasiswa malah masih sering kita lihat suka tawuran.
Bingung aku???

TIPS ngerjain Tugas Akhir :D

Jangan lupa konsultasikan judul" kamu.
kelima, mulailah mengerjakannya setahap demi setahap.

wah bersambung nih ....

OPE issue #27 is conceptually finished; all that is left is for me to draw and write it.

I will be on the road until May 1, and Issue #27 of OPE will have to wait until I get back. OPE recently moved from a bimonthly to a biwhenever publication precisely so that I could be more free with my time. Kudos to me.

Work begins on issue #27

An email to a lapsed subscriber:

Dear Former Subscriber,
We understand that you recently moved house, and now that you're all settled in, you want to renew your long-neglected subscription to OPE zine. I wish it were that simple.

You see, your behavior has consequences. When you neglect someone, it causes them to feel resentment. That's a pretty negative feeling, and it can make a person do some pretty awful things, such as talk smack about you, spread terrible lies, and FedEx you their excreta or the excreta of another. And there's no one to blame for those crimes but you.

You probably think $24 (the renewal fee) will assuage all those terrible feelings. It does go a long way, but if you want to demonstrate true remorse, you should include a US$5 late fee. Only then can real healing begin.

You've been lucky, as you know from the lack of parcels you've received containing excreta. But don't delay. I poop every day.

All issues of OPE #26 have arrived

Other People Exist, Issue #26, has arrived at its northernmost destination (as evidenced by this photo of a dog being forced to wear glasses), indicating that it has probably arrived everywhere. I am currently resting on my laurels.

Reader feedback re: Issue #26 of Other People Exist has begun trickling in

Read what people are saying:

OPE is especially good this month - a lapsed subscriber, now returned to the fold

Just got my OPE which is always reassuring [sic] - one of OPE's smarter subscribers

I have not yet read OPE - a long-time subscriber

The latest (and final) email reminder to lapsed subscribers:

Hi. This is Malcolm, the OPE intern again. Issue #26 of Other People Exist (The Fifth Annual Death/Christmas Issue) mailed out yesterday, but I cannot release your copy until I have received your $24 remittance. Kurt tried to get me to mail you the issue anyway, telling me what a great subscriber you've been and saying It's not about the money, but I refused.

Kurt says the latest issue might be the best ever (as judged by Kurt). It includes such future classics as I'm Not Gay, Much and The Hipster Holocaust, as well as Kurt's annual Christmas letter. And Kurt says he tried to keep filler to an absolute minimum (though some is unavoidable). I watched him labor over this issue until his fingers were pink with wear, so I know just how good it ostensibly is.

Your $24 will do more than keep the issues flowing for the rest of Year Five. It will restore your good name in the community and seal your status as a supporter of American art, regardless of quality. Won't you renew today? Your checkbook is where you left it.

The Fifth Annual Death/Christmas Issue

Issue #26 (The Fifth Annual Death/Christmas Issue) mailed out today at approximately 12:23 PM। Please wait quietly by your mailbox for its arrival.

OPE recognizes the arrival of the new drum cartridge

The latest issue of OPE (#26) was delayed by a copier breakdown, but today we rejoice in the arrival of a new drum cartridge. Copying will recommence tomorrow, and the latest issue should be in subscribers' hot little hands in the next few days. Enjoy!

The All Parody Issue

The Other People Exist All Parody Issue, containing the best of Kurt's ad and cartoon parodies, was published in 2009 with the idea that Kurt would sneak it onto the shelves of area bookstores. Kurt chickened out at the very first store he entered, leaving him with six copies of this rare issue. Recently, he gifted a copy to blogger VE as a thank you for this year's commenting payola, and VE had this to say about the issue:

Fantastic! - VE, via electronic mail

Readers enjoying their OPE

A recent email to OPE subscribers who have not yet renewed:

Dear OPE subscriber,
Hi, this is Malcolm again, the college intern at Other People Exist zine. Kurt is finishing up the 5th annual Death/Christmas issue (issue #26), and unfortunately, you are currently not on our mailing list. This is because you forgot to renew/refuse to renew/have passed away. Kurt plans to complete the issue and have it at your doorstep before Christmas Day, which falls on the 25th this year. But you must renew to receive this blessed issue.

Kurt explicitly instructed me to keep the tone of this renewal reminder professional, but I can't help mentioning the long hours I've spent waiting for the arrival of your moneys. Just because I'm imaginary doesn't mean things don't bother me.

If you prefer not to receive any more issues of OPE, simply harden your heart against my earnest request and ignore the call to support American art in an age that is so badly in need of it. And Happy Holidays!

Malcolm

"Hilarious as always"

"I NEED it, bimonthly or biwhenever"

"It is great and...I love it."

Other People Exist zine

ope zine #9

Other People Exist is a zine started in October 2004 by cartoonist and elementary school teacher Kurt Xxxxxx. The zine consists primarily of comics and prose by the author and guest contributors. Also known as OPE, the zine is produced on a Sharp AL-800 copier and hand-folded and stapled by the author, who closely inspects each finished copy for blemishes.

OPE zine is one of the most expensive zines available today, at $4 per issue ($24 for a one year subscription)। Subscribers consist of fans of the author's work and friends who feel sorry for Kurt, who hasn't held a paying job in over four years.
